Chair
David joined the Aberlour Board in December 2019. His first experience as a charity trustee was in 1988 when he was the founding Chair of a small youth charity – he has been passionate about the voluntary sector ever since. Most of his career has been spent in the Scottish Government which he joined in 1990, or in associated public bodies.
From 2011-2019 he was Chief Executive of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) a role in which he enjoyed working with a wide range of charity boards and trustees on improving governance and impact. During that time, he also nurtured his interest in digital technology and putting service users at the centre of design processes.
In January 2019 he was appointed Chief Executive of the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS).
In February 2021 David moved within the Scottish Government to take up the post of Interim Director of Local Government and Communities.
David is married with two grown-up daughters and was brought up in the village of Aberlour in North-East Scotland, where his parents still live.
