Tim Armstrong

Tim joined Aberlour’s Board of Directors in September 2017 and sits on the Improvement Audit and Risk Committee. Since qualifying as a social worker in 1992, Tim has worked in a wide range of professional and managerial posts across the whole range of social work services, including child protection, fostering and adoption, adult care services, older persons services and criminal justice services. Latterly, he has also managed a range of education services including early years and additional support needs services.

Tim has extensive experience as a local government senior manager including the management of human, financial, and physical resources. From 2013 to 2016 he served as the Chief Social Work Officer for Angus Council before deciding to pursue his academic interests by taking up the post of lecturer at Dundee University and starting a piece of research looking at the characteristics of successful foster carers.

Over the course of his career Tim has worked extensively in partnership with the third sector. Moving from the statutory sector to the University has allowed him the opportunity to give something back in recognition of all that Aberlour and other voluntary agencies do for the most vulnerable children and young people in Scotland.

In his spare time, when he is not studying or pursuing his research, Tim enjoys spending time with his family and friends, travelling, hill walking and walking his dog.
